Renewal of California Tax Credits for Production

California needs all the tools it can get in order to keep film, TV and commercial production in state. Many states throughout the US and countries abroad have active tax credit programs that lure producers, eager to cut costs, to their locale.

Louisiana, N. Carolina, Michigan, Puerto Rico, Canada and the UK are among many territories that have created significant subsidy and rebate programs that can cut up to 40% off of a production budget. These governments understand how lucrative a film production can be for the local economy. The question is, is California doing enough to promote its program and work on the micro level with individual film producers to make sure the program impacts both the Studios and the Indie Film world.

Take a look at this article published on www.deadline.com that discusses the pending legislation. http://www.deadline.com/2011/05/california-state-assembly-votes-to-extend-film-tax-credit-to-2014/
